TALENTED DECORATORS COMPLETE ENTIRE RESIDENTIAL VILLAGE IN RECORD TIME
Overlooking the Vale of Evesham in an area of outstanding beauty, the brand-new Wood Norton Care Village is more than just a residential home. Featuring 48 village apartments, a 60-bedroom care home and a whole host of amenities – including restaurants, bars, shops and a cinema, as well as a leisure centre, spa and swimming pool – the Wood Norton Care Village encompasses an entire community.
The talented team at T.O.L. Decorators were called upon to carry out the complete interior and exterior decoration at the new facility. Having impressed with their outstanding work at a retirement village in Oxford, T.O.L. Decorators were the obvious choice for a project of this nature.
“It was an honour to be chosen to help bring the Wood Norton development to life,” explained Tim O’Leary, Director at T.O.L. Decorators. “The care village is a beautiful place for people to retire and we were delighted that we could apply our expertise and deliver a fantastic place for people to live and socialise.”
The right paints for the job
With such a varied scope of work, rooms and surfaces required real skill from T.O.L. Decorators. Tackling apartments and healthcare facilities, as well as a variety of commercial outlets, the team had their work cut out in the time that was allocated. Nevertheless, T.O.L. Decorators confronted the challenge head-on and, using a mixture of different materials, including specialist paint for the ceiling in the swimming pool area and wallpaper for the reception area, the project was completed to an excellent standard.
As part of the service, the team provided expert advice on colour schemes and recommended the use of a variety of Johnstone’s Trade paints to achieve the desired finish – all in classic, neutral shades.
Johnstone’s Trade Acrylic Durable Matt – a premium quality emulsion paint designed with outstanding durability and a washable, matt finish – was used to help withstand the wear and tear of daily life within the high traffic areas, while Johnstone’s Trade Flat Matt provided a completely flat, opaque finish throughout. The team spent six months painting the interior and exterior walls, including 14,000 square metres of ceiling work.
Against the clock
The sheer scale of the project and its varied requirements weren’t the only challenge that T.O.L. Decorators faced while working on this project. Setbacks with the previous phase of development meant the completion date was brought forward by two months. In response, the team brought in an army of 30 decorators to make sure that the care village was completed on time and to an excellent standard. The busy site made this a challenge but, thanks to strong teamwork and project management, T.O.L. Decorators delivered the entire village in good time, and provided a place that residents and staff are all proud of.
The client praised the project highly, with the library and cinema in particular commended for their quality finish. The efforts of the team were also recognised nationally when they were made a finalist at Johnstone’s Trade’s Painter of the Year Awards.
Paul Farrell at Johnstone’s Trade, said: “The work that Tim and his team have done in bringing the Wood Norton development to life is outstanding. Johnstone’s Trade is proud to have been involved in such a special project that will provide residents, guests and staff with surroundings they can enjoy for many years to come.”
