Today PPG brought its global Colourful Communities initiative back to Birstall and completed the renovation of a Community Centre Trust facility. The Centre is less than half a mile from PPG’s Birstall head office and more than 35 PPG volunteers, together with members of the Community Centre Trust, spent a week refurbishing and painting rooms throughout the facility.
The project utilised more than 150 litres of Johnstone’s Trade paint, in a pleasing colour scheme designed in consideration of those who are visually impaired, elderly or have dementia. PPG volunteers also helped beautify a new catering area and renovated the Centre’s reception and toilets. The Centre acts as a community home for a diverse programme of arts, theatre, fitness and wellness events and classes. The project was supported by Green’s Decorating Contractor’s Limited, who provided local refurbishment services.
“We are proud to bring together our volunteers and products to demonstrate a real and positive impact on the community in which we live and work,” said Paul Dowie, PPG HR director, architectural coatings, EMEA region north & east. “The Community Centre Trust is located less than half a mile from our Birstall location, and our employees enthusiastically gave back to an organization that has enriched their lives.”
Ian Blamires, trustee, Birstall Community Trust said “PPG has been a vibrant part of Birstall’s business community for many years and now this Colorful Communities project at the Centre only enhances the community engagement opportunities we’re able to provide to more than 600 people who use this facility each week.”
The Colorful Communities program, PPG’s signature initiative for supporting communities, aims to protect and beautify the neighborhoods where it operates around the world. Committed volunteers contribute their time and PPG paint products are used to help transform community assets – from painting classrooms, to bringing colour to redesigning a playground. Since 2015, PPG has completed more than 200 Colorful Communities projects, impacting more than 5.2 million people in 30 countries.
