Johnstone’s Trade has delivered a perfect colour specification for a large-scale social housing refurbishment in Perth.
Fairfield Housing Co-operative manages more than 450 properties, and with a proportion of its housing stock built more than half a century ago, it turned to Perth-based Mackay Decorators and Johnstone’s Trade to repaint and refresh 30 blocks inside and out.
As well as a tight four-month schedule to work around, Fairfield Housing also stipulated that the colour scheme was to remain exactly as it was in order to maintain the character of the buildings, which were originally built in the 1930s. Mackay worked closely with staff at Johnstone’s Decorating Centre on the Kings Cross Trade Park in Dundee, making use of its state of-the-art colour tinting equipment to deliver a perfect match.
Mackay used more than 4,500 litres of Johnstone’s Stormshield Pliolite Based Masonry Finish for the exterior of the properties. Independently tested and approved by the British Board of Agrément (BBA), it will provide protection for up to 15 years, and as it can be tinted to match thousands of colours, there’s no need to compromise on aesthetics. Shower proof within 20 minutes, it is also suitable for application in temperatures as low as -5°C, and can be applied to previously painted or untreated porous surfaces, making it the ideal choice for this project.
John Nevin, managing director of Mackay Decorators, said: “I’ve used Johnstone’s for years now and have always been delighted with its products’ performance and ease of application. The Johnstone’s Pliolite Based Masonry Finish, in particular, is outstanding and comfortably the best on the market.”
Judges at the prestigious Johnstone’s Painter of the Year awards were so impressed by the quality of the finish and the sensitive way Mackay Decorators worked around residents during the project, that it was shortlisted in the Residential category.
