Johnstone’s Trade’s Steel & Cladding Semi-Gloss Topcoat has played a starring role in the refurbishment of the main entrance at Birmingham’s landmark National Exhibition Centre.
For nearly 40 years, the NEC has played host to thousands of successful events, shows and exhibitions. With more than 500 events attracting millions of visitors each year, the NEC has become an iconic part of the Birmingham landscape.
Tasked with repainting the exterior metalwork of the iconic facility, Walsall-based Modmill Decorators opted for Johnstone’s Steel & Cladding Semi-Gloss Topcoat in brilliant white.
The product, which forms part of the brand’s Performance Coatings Metal Defence System, has been specifically formulated to provide long-lasting anti-corrosive protection for metal and profile claddings and is also resistant to UV damage.
The area was fully prepared prior to repainting with the team from Modmill using high pressure jet washers to strip back the paintwork completely.
Gerard Sherwood, director at Modmill, said: “I have over 40 years’ experience and have used Johnstone’s on 100s of projects during that time. Where possible I always use Johnstone’s as I know it performs well and is easy to apply, saving us time on site. I have an excellent working relationship with the Johnstone’s team, who are always on hand to offer advice especially on such large-scale projects.”
Dean Westbury, project engineer at the NEC, added: “The NEC is visited by millions of people every year so it is vital that the entrance is kept fresh and makes a lasting first impression. Not only that, but with Resorts World Birmingham opening on the NEC site later this summer we’re going to see a game-changing development so we need to look our best. Johnstone’s products have allowed us to achieve this and we would have no hesitation in specifying products from its range again in the future.”
Johnstone’s Steel & Cladding Semi-Gloss Topcoat further benefits from being available in over 16,000 colours thanks to Johnstone’s state-of-the-art tinting system, which offers a wide range of design possibilities.
