The high performance attributes of Johnstone’s Trade’s products have helped to deliver an unbeatable finish for new state-of-the-art police training facilities.
The new world-class facilities at Carr Gate in Wakefield forms part of a multi-million pound three-building project co-ordinated by Interserve Construction for West Yorkshire Police. It houses innovative firearms ranges, indoor and outdoor public order arenas, custody cells, classrooms, as well as a staff canteen and gym.
Leeds-based painting contractor, Broadley Group, decorated the entire Carr Gate site over a five-month period. With such contrasting areas to paint, Broadley Group utilised the expertise of Johnstone’s technical advisory department, PPG Extra, to design a lasting specification.
Johnstone’s Acrylic Durable Matt was used to provide the hardwearing finish required in the office areas, while Johnstone’s Acrylic Eggshell was applied in the staff shower areas as it is resistant to condensation.
The floor of the impressive ballistics training area, which at around 10,000 square metres is a central part of the new facility, was painted with Johnstone’s Two Pack Epoxy Water Based Floor Paint. The high performance coating was applied to provide a highly resilient, durable and slip-resistant film - perfect for such a demanding environment.
Johnstone’s Two Pack Anti-Graffiti Finish, meanwhile, was applied to the concrete interior walls of the custody cells to create a tough surface which allows for frequent and thorough cleaning. Its seamless tile-like surface ensures graffiti, grease and other contaminants can be removed easily.
Chris Taylor, decorating manager at Broadley Group, said: “We use Johnstone’s Trade on the majority of our projects as we find them easy to work with - we know whatever products we use, it will provide the finish our clients are looking for. The PPG Extra team were on hand throughout the project ensuring everything ran very smoothly.”
Gary Carbutt, design manager at Interserve Construction commented: “The clear understanding of the unique nature of the site by Johnstone’s Trade ensured the specification was spot on. The durability of the products used was key to the success of this project, as it will ultimately save time needed for future maintenance, ensuring the buildings continue to look their best for years to come.”
