The sustainability of paint systems is the latest subject to be addressed by Johnstone’s Trade in its new RIBA Approved Continuing Professional Development (CPD) seminar.
Titled ‘Specifying Sustainable Paint Systems’, the new seminar provides architects and specifiers with valuable information on what they need to consider at every part of the paint lifecycle. The CPD examines three key elements - the extraction of raw materials, the manufacturing process and its performance in use – and highlights the key factors for specifiers to consider.
The drivers for this understanding are many, and include the widespread use of environmental rating systems such as BREEAM, Ska and LEED, the launch of the government’s Green Deal for home improvements and the EU Ecolabel scheme, as well as growing awareness of the harmful environmental impacts of some traditional forms of paint.
Helen Tiplady, specification marketing manager, said: “This CPD has been designed to ensure that specifiers and architects are equipped with an understanding and knowledge of how paint specification can impact positively on the sustainability of a project.”
Johnstone’s has been an official provider of RIBA CPD Seminars since 2005 and already has a range of CPD presentations covering subjects such as understanding colour, decorative fire protection for internal linings, anti-bacterial coatings for internal surfaces and how to extend maintenance cycles through paint.
