A Milton Keynes-based charity has secured a brighter future for its learners after winning a national competition run by Johnstone’s Trade.
MK Snap won the Johnstone’s Paint Community Spirit campaign after coming out on top by polling 34 per cent of 3,000 votes cast by the general public.
And the charity - which caters for more than 100 learners and offers professional support to people with a range of learning difficulties and challenges – will now benefit from the expertise of leading paint manufacturer Johnstone’s, which will provide the labour and materials for a re-decoration makeover.
Maureen McColl, chief executive of MK Snap, said: “Everyone is absolutely thrilled to win the Johnstone’s Paint Community Spirit competition.
“The centre has been open for seven years and hasn’t had any painting work done during that time so this will create a really colourful and vibrant environment for our learners throughout the whole building.
“It’s going to make a real difference to the lives of our learners and I would like to pass on a huge thanks to Johnstone’s Paint and all the people who voted for MK Snap for their support.”
More than 50 community projects originally entered the competition after being invited to submit applications by Johnstone’s.
Four projects were shortlisted, with MK Snap up against entries from Portsmouth, Preston and Dagenham in the public vote.
MK Snap’s quest to win the Johnstone’s Paint Community Spirit campaign has received backing from MK Dons Football Club, who competed in this season’s Johnstone’s Paint Trophy.
MK Dons goalkeeper David Martin, who visited the centre to back MK Snap’s bid for success, said: “I’m delighted that MK Snap has come out on top of the public vote.
“When I visited the centre, it was clear to see how special the learners are and what a fantastic atmosphere they create. I’m sure a re-decoration makeover from Johnstone’s Paint will make a huge difference and enhance the environment further at what is already a fantastic initiative.”
Ben Wilde, brand and sponsorship manager for Johnstone’s, said: “Our sincere congratulations go to MK Snap.
“We had more than 50 entries and the standard of entry was incredibly high.
“It was extremely close in the voting between the shortlisted finalists, but there is no doubting MK Snap is a very worthy winner and our re-decoration makeover will make a real difference to the centre, the learners and the community as a whole.”
