A host of high performance products from paint manufacturer Johnstone’s Trade have played an integral role in providing first-class training facilities for up-and-coming designers at Oldham College’s new Fashion Academy.
The pioneering manufacturer has teamed up with the Academy to assist in the delivery of state-of-the-art amenities for some of the country’s most talented young designers and machine operatives.
Johnstone’s has supported the development of the new Academy by supplying more than 150 litres of product from its comprehensive and innovative range.
While the Academy is set to provide a significant boost to the UK’s fashion and textiles manufacturing industry, Johnstone’s boasts its own long-standing commitment to developing young talent in the shape of its Young Painter of the Year competition.
During the past decade, Johnstone’s has identified and developed hundreds of the UK’s finest young decorators thanks to its annual skills event. This shared commitment to developing the next generation, along with a proud commitment to British manufacturing, sealed the partnership between Johnstone’s and the college.
Products from Johnstone’s Ecological Solutions range were used at the Academy, including Covaplus Vinyl Matt, Acrylic Eggshell and Joncryl Water-Based Primer Undercoat. The products are EU accredited and boast low VOC level, meaning they are kinder to the environment.
In addition, Johnstone’s sister sundries brand Fat Hog was used to supply the brushes, rollers and workwear to the small army of decorators that brought a sparkling new look to the Academy in just three weeks.
Amanda Walker, fashion academy manager and NVQ leader at Oldham College, said: “We believe that the Academy will bring essential skills to the area and revolutionise the textiles industry. Partnering with companies that share our commitment to not only British manufacturing, but also the development of young and talented individuals, is something we take very seriously and we have been delighted with the support supplied to us by Johnstone’s.”
Megan Esmond from Johnstone’s said: “Our parent company, PPG Architectural Coatings, employs over 1500 people across the UK and Ireland and we are incredibly proud of our rich history as a successful British manufacturer that supports future generations.
“We have been very excited to work with Oldham College during the development of its new Fashion Academy and are delighted that our products adorn a facility that aims to help British manufacturing and young people continue to thrive.”
