Specifiers from a wide range of professions including healthcare professionals, architects, designers, housing associations and main contractors came together at a special event about creating dementia friendly environments, hosted by Johnstone’s Trade.
Supported by the Dementia Action Alliance, Johnstone’s brought experts from across a number of industries together at Wigan’s DW Stadium for a highly informative seminar and networking event, where delegates discussed how to create dementia friendly buildings of the future.
Representatives from Johnstone’s took the opportunity to speak about the many ways paint and wall coverings can be used to help those living with dementia to feel comfortable and safe in their surroundings, drawing on the company’s long history of working to dementia-focused design briefs in care homes and hospitals around the UK.
Advice on dementia friendly design also came from flooring company Polyflor, Panaz fabrics, David Phillips Furniture, Find Signage, and Lighting for Health.
Johnstone’s specification manager, Stuart Leigh, said: “With Dementia Awareness Week happening in May, it felt appropriate to be discussing the ways that designers, architects, specifiers and main contractors can ensure that buildings are safe and easy for those living with dementia to use.
“We have been working on making the buildings we supply paint to more dementia friendly for a long time, but it is great to see this issue being discussed across such a wide variety of professions & by so many.
“Johnstone’s Trade have more expertise & advice available on this subject than ever before, and it was fantastic to meet with and discuss these topics with over 200 people who rely on that expertise being put to good use in the creation of dementia friendly spaces.”
